A Word About Soap Care
For best results, please do not leave your soap sitting in a puddle! Wet soap tends to turn mushy. Keep your soap high and dry, preferably in a soap dish with good drainage.
Common-sense warning: For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. Do not use a soap if you are allergic to or have any known sensitivity to any of its ingredients. If irritation occurs, discontinue use immediately.
Our Soap Repertoire
Below is a list of almost every soap we have been known to make. Since we make small batches, not all soaps will be available at all times (check here to find out what's in stock), but we can make more for you if you are patient! Just drop us a line with the name of soap you have a hankering for, and we'll email you as soon as we have a fresh batch. Thanks.

Almond Joy
Almonds were a prized ingredient in breads served to the pharaohs, and Cleopatra is said to have used them in her beauty regimen. Soothe your senses as she might have, with the rich lather of this soap bar made with buttermilk, sweet almond oil, ground almonds, and oats. $6.00

Arnold's Mark
A serious soap bar, Arnold's Mark is made with prized emu oil and essential oils of tea tree (melaleuca alternifolia), eucalyptus (eucalyptus globulus), and lavender (lavendula angustifolia) -- all lauded for their beneficial, skin-healing qualities. Boxed. $6.00

Awake
So there you are, in your cozy bed, having a nice little dream, snoring gently, when all of a sudden the alarm clock goes off, jolting you awake. It's cruel, really. You owe it to yourself to at least add some nice soap to your morning. Mint, basil, and citrus to invigorate; freckled with dill & and cranberry seeds. $6.00
Balthazar
Frankincense, myrrh, and gold: the gifts of the Magi. The ground resins of those age-old botanicals and a dusting of gold mica make for a divine soap. Just as the faithful burn frankincense to symbolize cleansing and purification, here's a chance to experience your very own aromatic spirit-soothing ceremony every day. Boxed. $6.00
Big Bugaboo
Citronella, eucalyptus, lavender, peppermint, bergamot, and lemongrass -- what do all of these have in common? For centuries, people have used these herbs and their essential oils as natural insect repellants. Now you can, too. (Besides, they smell nice.) $6.00
Brooklandia
An affectionate tribute to one of the District¹s lesser-known neighborhoods, this bar is made from backyard dandelions and holy water from the nearby Franciscan Monastery. $6.00
Birthday Suit
For all you soap purists out there: simply soap, as naked as it comes. The shortest ingredient list ever. No additives. Nothing but saponified coconut and olive oil with cocoa butter. Unadorned, unscented, uncolored, uncomplicated. Uncommon. $6.00

Capitaine
As every good Star Trek fan knows, Captain Jean-Luc Picard likes to start the day with hot cup of Earl Grey tea. Our prime directive in making this soap was to evoke that aroma and inspire humans everywhere to explore their universe with courage and grace. Boxed. $6.00
Copalpom
The spicy aroma of this bar reminded my Honduran relatives of copal incense, the tree resin widely used by the ancient (and some present-day) Maya for a wide array of religious ceremonies. Its use is described the Popol Vu, an Maya creation myth. A strong, invigorating start to every day. $6.00
Ember Glow
Even though most of my ³camping² history involves a plastic yellow pup tent strung up between doorknob and bedpost, it's hard to resist the hypnotic thrill of a crackling campfire. There's something similarly smoky and earthy about this (bear-free) soap, which has oak leaves thrown in for good measure. $6.00

Eleven
Live like a rockstar, just don¹t smell like one. Enlivened with essential oils of lavender and rosemary, this slightly scrubby soap has a huge fan base. Unsurpassed in washing off beer, smoke, sweat, and lipstick from delicate rockstar skin. Thank you! Good night! $6.00
Espresso
A great scrubby working soap. Keep one by your kitchen sink -- it will remove kitchen odors from hands. $6.00
Flor de Naranja
Orange blossoms are white, smell heavenly, and remind me of my sister's kitchen with the windows thrown open. Her neighbor has a tree and when it's in full bloom -- which seems like all the time -- it makes the whole neighborhood smell just like this soap. Boxed. $6.00
Flying Fig
I was a latecomer to the fig‹but better late than never, eh? I recall thinking to myself, ³This does not taste like a Fig Newton at all!² as I bit into it. It was, in fact, quite delicious and had the most intriguing crunch. I've been a fan ever since. This soap pays tribute to the fanciful fig. Boxed. $6.00

Fluffy Pajamas
Maybe it's just me, but this buttermilk soap reminds me of that favorite pair of fresh-from-the-dryer pajamas -- a comfort soap if there ever was one. Perfect for that long bath before bed. Sweet dreams! One of our best sellers. $6.00
Good Dog
Specially formulated with Fido-friendly essential oils of cedar, lavender and eucalyptus, this dog soap works great on people, too, gently evicting funky smells and fleas. Not recommended for cats. $6.00
Grapefruit

Honeybee Mine
Specially made for soon-to-be-wed sweethearts K&J, this honey soap is enriched with goats' milk, exotic nut oils, and oatmeal. Calendula petals and a pinch of cinnamon round out this gently sudsy bar. Share it with someone you love! $6.00
Lavenmary -- Clean and Green
A slightly scrubby soap enlivened with essential oils of lavender and rosemary, and the promise of good clean fun. The lovely green color comes from ground rosemary, parsley flakes, and mint leaves. Nourishing aloe vera, and jojoba oil make this body bar especially mild. $6.00

I Feel Pretty
Go ahead, pamper yourself...with this mild bar that features the soft floral scent of rose geranium. Ground rosemary stimulates while the essential oil of rose geranium soothes. Boxed. $6.00
Into the Woods
I love lumber stores and pencils because they both smell so good. Add this soap to the list -- its naturally woody scent comes from cedarwood, sandalwood, and patchouli. $6.00

Jadestone
Imported cold-pressed hempseed oil is the key ingredient in this wonderfully rich bar. Hemp has been cultivated throughout history for a myriad of uses. In fact, because of its importance for sails (the word canvas is rooted in cannabis) and ropes, hemp was a required crop in the American colonies. Just thought you'd like to know. $6.00

Just Ducky
A special treat for sensitive skin of any age, this mild calendula-sage soap is made with herbs that have been valued since ancient times for their skin-soothing and healing properties. Naturally colored and scented with calendula petals and sage essential oil. Boxed. $6.00

Pepino!
Forgive me while I wax ecstatic on the humble vine-growing pickle cousin, affectionately known as Cuke: Ah, for your waxy, dark green rind! Your watery, pale flesh! Your simple smell of cool green crisp wet on a hot summer day! Your flat slippery seeds! Heaven on a tendril; the prize of salad! Boxed. $6.00
Salmagundi
This soap is made from tiny little bits of every 8th Street Soap Kitchen soap bar made over the last year‹there will never be another soap exactly like this ever again. In this way it's just like a snowflake, only also a little like bologna (but smells much, much better). $6.00

Spruce Springstein
The boss of soap. Essential oils of spruce and other evergreens. $6.00

Like being in a citrus grove! Surround yourself with the aromas of tangerine, sweet orange, and grapefruit in this gently lathering bar. Mild enough to be used as a face soap. Boxed. $6.00
Three Vices
Dark roast espresso. Guinness extra-stout ale. Bitter dark chocolate. For the first time in known history, you can experience these three dark vices at the same time you¹re getting clean. A richly decadent‹yet guilt-free, somehow‹experience. For your darkest, sudsiest hour. Please note: for external use only. Boxed. $6.00

Turkish Delight
A middle-eastern delicacy made with roses, nuts, and honey, Turkish Delight is one of the oldest known confections. Although this rose-scented bar is a soap, not a sweet, it is a most appropriate host or hostess gift nonetheless. Flecked with ground hibiscus and rosehips, enriched with hazelnut and sweet almond oils -- in short, delightful! Boxed. $6.00
